I'm not a "Thrift Store Model", but at least I don't wear my buckles and straps twisted up. That looks sloppy!

Nowadays in society anything moderately out there is considered "too different" to accept.

It all depends on your mind set and whether you care enough of what people think of your clothes to judge you.

I tried it only once, in kindergarden class of 1990 (b1984). One full day of "look a boy in GIRLS pants" - mostly from the girls actually - was enough to not attempt that ever again. By that time overalls had already (at least in northern Europe) been labeled a distinctly girl thing to wear - and it is still perceived as such to this day.

I wore overalls like crazy out of school however. Lightwashed denim were my favorites, and I got a new pair whenever they were available and I could persuade my parents to buy them. I would run straight to my room when coming home from school and change into overalls. I rarely spend time with my classmates out of school so this was easy, and if there were any chance I would run into other kids, I would wear something over them.

I outgrew my final pair in the 1997 or 1998. By that time it was seriously hard to get overalls in sizes of a fast growing teenage boy in this part of the world, and I didn't get to wear overalls again for a very long time. I never really stopped hoping I would pick it up again some day, and finally a couple of years ago, I seized the opportunity. Now I own 8-10 different pairs (thanks asos!) and wear them proudly in public!

I never wore bib overalls back in the 1990's when I was in school. I didn't know which stores carried bibs at the time.

Several guys and girls in my classes wore overalls the proper way, with both straps on their shoulders and fastened to the bib. I couldn't help feeling slightly excited and aroused at the sight of another classmate in overalls. However, I felt too embarrassed to compliment them on their fashion, or ask where they had bought their overalls from.

A few students wore their overalls with one strap unfastened and hanging down their back -- or with the bib down. I despised that style and thought it look rather dorky and stupid. It's like buying an umbrella when you live in a climate where it never rains. The reason people buy overalls is because they like the bib against their chest and the straps that hold it up.

People wear overalls for different reasons (and to each his own!). Personally, I do it, not because I particularly like the feel, but because I like the look of the extra denim and how that particular look makes me stand out a bit. To that end, I definitely think the one-strap look has merit if it makes sense for the particular outfit (eg. if you have some print in your tee that you would like to be visible, in addition to the bib), and I do it myself on occasion.

I fully agree with you about the bib down look though, that is just pointless and super impractical, in addition to looking stupid. Despite it being a distinctly 90s thing, there are still pontiffs in the fashion blogoshpere that want to give the impression that this is now the only way bibs should be worn as a fashion statement. Rather sad relly...

Many school-aged kids can be VERY judgemental! It's seems like any clothing fashion that is moderately out there is considered "too different" to accept.

I am the type of person who wants to be different and doesn't care who likes my overalls and who dislikes my overalls.

Others might ask why you're wearing them because most people don't and you should tell them because you like them. Don't let other people run your life!

My 90's school photo

I loved wearing overalls in the 1990s! "Sears" overalls were my favorite. They wore out so comfortable.

People at school would tell me, "Dude you gotta have one side of those overalls unbuckled!" I told them, "no... I want to wear both straps!" I didn't care what they thought of me.

If you can´t pee in them, they are for girls. Fake fly really sucks ;-)

I bought a pair of the Vibes overalls. They just came in the mail yesterday.

The material is high-quality and the color looks great, but the "bib" part of the overalls is very small! (In other words, these overalls have a very small bib.) The "bib" part only covers the bottom half of my chest.

I am very disappointed, because these overalls looked so sexy in the product photo. Going to send these back for a refund...
